Where The Orange Blossoms Grow....

Hello! Welcome to the Stricklen's blog. We hope to keep our family and friends up to date with what is going on with our family. You will find a variety of experiences posted here -- you may find pictures of the never ending project of building our house, Callie helping William with his first steps, Mary studying a rare insect species, or perhaps you may be terribly bored with Molly's numerous fruit trees, berries, vegetables and rare plant pictures! Who knows what we may find Chris and CJ doing -- probably something having to do with a tractor or machine of sorts. Abby and Margaret will keep us entertained with costumes from other lands or a fairy story. Whatever we post, we trust it will lift your spirits and bring honor and glory to our Lord!

A Coupon from Perkins....

After eating a meal at Perkins, I picked up a coupon at the counter. As we all loaded up in the car one of us showed the coupon to Daddy. Before we knew it, we were on our way to Kennedy Space Center!

Anyways, here are some pictures--Hope y'all enjoy!

I think this picture speaks for itself.....

Let's get started! Where do we go first???

Sweet brothers :)
On the tour bus

WOW! That's big!

Rocket boosters for the Saturn V

The actual control room where the people sat during the first
successful Apollo mission. Apollo 8 orbited the moon.

Ummm...You'd have to ask someone else....
Mama said this is the way they did things
before computers! I guess they manually lit
all those little boxes!

This is the same chart, just not lit - It is what they
used during the Apollo 8 mission.
This was in Mission Control.

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are the children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

~Psalm 127:4-5~

It was a windy day
One of the four launch pads

The Statue of Liberty could fit through these doors!
(Really - that is what they said!)

This building, the Vehicle Assembly Building, is over 500 ft.
tall and stores the space shuttles until the next launch.

They said the tour bus could drive along one
of the stripes easily!
The count down clock used for all launches

Us kids with an astronaut. :)

That place is huge! Looks like ya'll had a real fun time!
How come ya'll's tour bus was so empty? I would'a thought there'd be more people at such an amazing place!

It's been so long since I was there. It's changed a lot. What a great place. The hugeness of that building is amazing - WOW!

I loved the pictures from "Mission Control". So nostalgic. Those guys really had to know what they were doing with their slide rules, etc.

Thanks for posting!

Love,
Aunt Beth
(I liked your post title! Never hurts to pick up a coupon here and there huh?)

Laney -
The busus were very full. We just happened to be the first ones boarding so Callie was able to take a picture on an empty bus (?) Don't ask me why? :)

Beth -
You and I are from the same era so we appreciate the same things! Did you notice the IBM coats hanging on the backs of the chairs. You would have LOVED that part of the tour! They had a very large screen way up above mission control and showed about a 10 minute footage of preparations for the launch and the actual launch itself. And there we were in the actual room where it all happened. Not a thing had been touched! In fact, they showed several clips that were taken in that very room and there the guys were with those jackets on! It was quite nostalgic. Chris and I both loved it!

How nice to have a spontaneous Daddy! My daddy (your great-granddaddy) was like that, Callie. Do I ever remember those old days of the "space race". Your mama Molly was one year old when I stayed up all night to watch the first man land on the moon.

So glad you were able to go -- that is a special part about living in Florida -- the Space Coast!

Love,
Grandmother
