Where The Orange Blossoms Grow....

Hello! Welcome to the Stricklen's blog. We hope to keep our family and friends up to date with what is going on with our family. You will find a variety of experiences posted here -- you may find pictures of the never ending project of building our house, Callie helping William with his first steps, Mary studying a rare insect species, or perhaps you may be terribly bored with Molly's numerous fruit trees, berries, vegetables and rare plant pictures! Who knows what we may find Chris and CJ doing -- probably something having to do with a tractor or machine of sorts. Abby and Margaret will keep us entertained with costumes from other lands or a fairy story. Whatever we post, we trust it will lift your spirits and bring honor and glory to our Lord!

Reformation 500 Celebration Part 1 ~ Preparations

Alright y'all, here we are ~ alive and unharmed. We made it back to God's country from the loooong trip to Yankee territory :) Just kidding! It was very nice.We met lots of very nice folks from Mass. and other places up there, so it wasn't bad at all :) And of course, the Reformation 500 was absolutely wonderful!!!!! Our family was so blessed by the entire event -- more of that to come.
I'm now going to try to accurately choronicle the trip, the conference, the various places we stopped along the way, etc. When I sat down to look at the pictures and put them on the computer, I found that we have almost a thousand pictures, soooo........ be prepared for a "Part 2" and maybe even a "Part 3." God bless y'all, and Semper Reformanda!

Costumes...........
Sewing, sewing, sewing, keep them fingers sewing.......
Hmmm....what might this be???
"OK, y'all, this looks way too much like a skirt!"
Well, if you've gotta sew, ya might as well do it comfortably:)
......More sewing........
Making the tams was my favorite part:):)

Well, we already posted pictures of the finished costumes. I guess that logically would have been the next post. But since we already posted them --
http://thestricklenfamily.blogspot.com/2009/06/rest-of-finished-cotumes.html we will go on from there!

Next post ..... THE TRIP BEGINS!!

Okay, let's try this again! A previous, incomplete post may show up here . . . still getting used to where things are on this computer!

Now, as I was saying before being so rudely interrupted by my wayward fingers . . . I am continually impressed by those busy Stricklen fingers! I mean, my grandmother taught me to sew about age 12 - 13, but I never tackled a War between the States re-enactment dress or an intricate, authentic Reformation era dress!

Talk about making herself "coverings of tapestry" and working "willingly with her hands!" Good work, maidens of virtue!

Love,
Grandmother, who thinks that kilt
looked a little like a skirt, too,
until it was finished. Then . . .
quite manly!
